Exeter is a city located in Devon in the South West of England. The city has a population of around 111,076 and enjoys a typical southern climate with expected temperatures of 20.6°C in July and 9.0°C in January. Exeter enjoys a very low unemployment levels with figures in April 2008 showing a level of 1.3% which is well below the 2.2% national average.
Tourism is one of Exeter’s largest industries and benefits from the cities catchment workforce of around 300,000 living within working distance. Other major sources of employment are the Met Office, the Devon County Council and the University of Exeter.
The city is only 70 miles from Bristol, has great transport links thanks to the M5, two railway stations, an International airport and is surrounded by plenty of countryside which makes the area very desirable and the property market in the area to grow 15% over the past five years.
Figures show that the average cost of a house in Exeter during the first half of 2008 was around £218,985 which is less than the national average. But the overall asking prices have risen by 5.8% between 2007 and 2008 which can be expected. The average price of flat or apartment in Exeter is around £164,000 compared to £328,000 for a detached house. These are average prices and as with most cities prices vary between areas and districts. If you are specifically looking for terraced blocks then search for properties in with EX4 post code, which is made up of around 40% terraced housing, this is also the same for the EX1 area which also has a similar amount of terraced houses. The EX1 area is said to be ideal for smaller families, elderly couples or young couples. Larger families will be better in the EX2 area as there are more semi detached properties suiting their needs.
